TOP 6 LESSONS I WILL TAKE INTO 2016

1

Happy New Year!! Today is the first day of 2016 and I must say New Years Day has got to be one of my most favorite holidays.  I love the promise of a brand new year, to create anew, to fill blank pages with my dreams, desires, and goals, and to gratefully experience another year of life.  What a privilege it is to have more time to enjoy another 365 days of life.

2015 was pretty epic for me: we had an amazing vacation in Barbados, I became pregnant with our first child due in 8 weeks, and we moved across the country back to my husband’s hometown for a new job and to be closer to family and friends for the baby. 2016 is going to be exciting, life changing, and one of the BEST years of our lives!

Every year I do a deep contemplation of my year and make intentions and goals for the upcoming one. Here are the 6 top lessons I learned in 2015 that I will carry forward with me as we start this new one:

1. Life has great plans for us – When I think about all the major events that happened in 2015, I am in awe of the Universe and all it provides for me to experience an amazing life. To conceive a child, move across the country, and my husband getting a dream job, are all such blessings that prove life is a string of big experiences waiting for us to create, manifest, and enjoy.  The bigger we dream, the greater the plan life hands us.  Always go after the concept of “what else do I want to experience” and open up to receive it.

2. Body is everything, movement is life – Perhaps the biggest challenge throughout my pregnancy is not being able to workout and run like I normally do.  I love my heavy weights and my half marathons, and with the slew of pregnancy symptoms…I’ve had to drastically cut back on my amount and intensity of exercise.  I’ve also had to deal with gestational diabetes, watching my carbohydrate intake and monitoring my blood sugar 4 times a day. I’ve never been so aware of the power and vulnerability of my body, and how precious it is to take good care of it so that my baby can be healthy. I’ve always valued the movement and wellness of my body, and now, with a life inside me, it’s never been more important.  Because of this, I am dedicating 2016 to my wellness and my wellness coaching work.

3. We are CREATORS - Anyone that has created a baby will agree with me when I say it’s such an amazing miracle of life to create a human being. To create a human life has given me a brand new perspective into the creative power we have and I’m feeling so pumped to create some more! My second book, a new phase of my wellness coaching business,  a new job position in wellness/athletics/recreation at McMaster University, and a trip to Taiwan are on the top of my list to create for 2016 :) You too, have this creative power, and I hope you harness and express more of it this upcoming year.

4. Don’t mind the unhappy people – Moving to a small town across the country has made me see people in a new light. I realized that there are A LOT of unhappy people out there. I see it day in and day out at work and sometimes it really disheartens me.  But I’ve decided that there will always be people who are unhappy, and that I choose to be in a different lot.  I will focus on creating my own light and happiness and hopefully that energy extends to those around me. If not, I will still continue to shine within myself.

5. Surrender the control – This is probably my biggest lesson learned as I go through a pregnancy filled with so many physical symptoms I cannot control.  It drives me crazy that I cannot control it, but it is the way it is.  There are some things we get to decide and there are some things we don’t.  It reminds me of the greater power of life and how we must discern the difference between when to exert power and when to let go.

6. What feels best is to nourish and love – Aaahhh…to end and begin on this note…when I focus on nourishment and love, it makes everything all better.  All the uncomfortable symptoms of pregnancy, the fears and anxieties about moving cross-country and having a baby, and facing the unknown about work, finances, and “would I be a good parent?” make some days pretty stressful.  I’ve remembered to slow down, to take deep breaths, and to focus on what’s most important. I’ve let myself have more self compassion, more space to be ok with what is, and remember that I am on this new journey as a Mommy to love my soon-to-arrive child.  When I remind myself of that, I relax and I smile, knowing that everything will fall into place as long as I focus on giving as much nourishment and love as I can.  Because that’s where my strongest power lies, and that is what my new year will be, one filled with deep nourishment and genuine love. I so wish the same for you :)

THANK YOU for being a part of my journey and for letting me be a part of yours. I can’t wait to connect with you in 2016 and GLOW some more together :)

Sending you love,

Lola

TAKE TIME TO TUNE IN TO THE SEASON OF YOUR PASSIONS

IMG_4555

Fall is my favorite season. Maybe it’s because my birthday month is in it, or maybe because instead of hot summer heat, I get to cozy up in hoodies, curl up, and drink tea. Most of all, I think I just love the shifting of energies: more into my inner self and the slower, softer rhythm of life.

I’ve been super contemplative about the big picture of my life lately, and have given a lot of thought to the next chapter of my journey. Instead of being ambitious in the pursuit of my lifework, I’m looking forward to dedicating my time and energy into raising our first child. It’s a dream come true and a huge blessing and privilege that I am excited to take on!

But where does this leave my lifework? I have always been so focused on creating my path of what I am here to offer the world. Surely this does not stop just because I am about to become a mother. But rather, I’d like to think, that it’ll amplify it, give it new meaning and depth, and show me the next layer of my purpose and being.

Our passions ebb and flow…what we love sometimes may come and go. I think the most important thing is to STAY CONNECTED and TUNED IN to your SELF so that we never lose sight of what those passions are, even if it may feel like we are taking a break from it for the time being.

I’m so excited to start my next group of coaching through a 7-week e-coaching course that I would like to share with you amazing women. Regardless of where you are on your journey, I know you are wanting to continue living your potential and I can’t wait to support you on our journey together.

YOU ARE HERE TO DO SOMETHING FOR THE WORLD: DO IT

10982890_641292085971331_2537499065851170282_n

You have something unique to contribute to the world.

When you find what that is, your whole life makes sense.

You were born with a specific purpose for you to share with the world. A flower has its purpose, a river has its purpose, a queen bee has her purpose, and YOU, as exactly who you are at this point in time and place, have a purpose. Your purpose is the essence of who you are and what you are here to do for the world just by being you. It’s you at your most natural and best self, you at your most giving and heartful self, and you when you feel like “being or doing this makes me feel amazing about myself and my place in the world”.

Your purpose may or may not be what you do for a living, but it is how you bring the most value to those around you. You apply your purpose to whatever situation or setting you are in because it is what you love being and doing the most. When you spend time living your purpose, you feel the most alive and grateful for being you.

When you look for ways to offer your purpose to the world, things in your life flow easily and make sense, you feel energized and are propelled forward in big ways. Start moving in the direction of your purpose today.

Exploring Your Purpose
  1.  I feel like my purpose is:
  2. I feel the most present and aware of my gifts when I am:
  3. In some of my most memorable and happy memories, I was:
  4. If I could travel the world and do this everyday for the people, it would be:
  5. If I were living my purpose, I would be doing more of:

Purpose Statement: Write a statement of what your purpose is. Don’t worry about exact wording, just capture the essence as best as you can. Post your purpose statement as a reminder to stay on path.

Knowing your life’s purpose is step one. Step two is sharing it with the world through your actions. You start to align yourself and your life with your purpose by choosing actions that honor what you are here to share with others. These actions you take starts with the self, and expand into bigger actions everyday with others, through your work, your dream projects, and your service work. There are hundreds of opportunities for you to act on your purpose. The more your actions align with your purpose, the more fun, meaning, balance, ease, and fulfillment you start to experience in your life.

My Purpose in Action: Brainstorm and list actions to start doing. Think of actions with yourself, with other people, and with the various things you do in life. It’s time to live your phenomenal purpose out loud.

  • Action 1:
  • Action 2:
  • Action 3:
  • Action 4:
  • Action 5:

Your life is determined by your actions everyday.

Be of purpose with your life.

4 WAYS TO GATHER ENERGY FOR YOUR DREAM PROJECT

IMG_4180

I know how it goes. You have a full-time job that takes up most of your day, you have a family that demands your care and attention, you have a partner that you want to spend quality time with, you have a house full of chores to do, you need to find some time to exercise, and if you’re lucky, you get a little bit of ME TIME once in a long while to enjoy some down time for yourself. I know, because I have been there…many times.

How, then, you ask…do I find the time and energy to even begin thinking of working on a dream project, let alone carve out actual time and energy to complete it. Sometimes this question is the very thing that stops us in our tracks, and projects never get started and dreams never even get the opportunity to take flight.

Here are four ways that have helped me get through the challenging yet exciting transition of working on dream projects while balancing a full-time life. These strategies have allowed me to actualize many dream projects into reality and I am enjoying the blessings of living my dreams full-time. I hope these tips help you to do the same.

  1. Have tunnel vision on what you are trying to create: The only way to get shit done when you’re already so busy is to have absolute focus and dedication in the direction you are trying to move towards. There’s no wishy-washy-ness about it. The rest of the world may not know what you’re working on after the kids have gone to bed, but YOU know, and you think about it every chance you get. You are hooked on what you’re trying to make happen and you come back to your project day after day, night after night, even if you only get to work on it for 15 minutes at a time.
  1. Take care of yourself well: Dreams are for the long haul and you are going to need energy that will sustain you for a long time. Taking good care of yourself is not a luxury, but an essential necessity if you want to achieve anything worth doing. You will need physical stamina from exercise, you will need nourishment from healthy foods, you will need fuel from good sleep, and you will need refreshing energy from having fun, de-stressing, and enjoying love and connection from those around you. The more you take care of yourself, the more positive energy you have, and the more motivated you will be to keep working on dream projects at the end of a long day.
  1. Focus on the knowing that your dream project will serve someone: Whatever your dream project may be, if it’s something you are passionate about and something that gives you joy and inspiration, most likely it will also do the same for those who get to see and experience your dream project when you’re done. When you can remember that there will be people benefiting from the awesomeness of your project, you will be reignited to keep going! Your dream projects are bigger than yourself…it will carry a momentum and purpose beyond boundaries when you keep in mind of the people you will impact and serve.
  1. Learn discipline and consistency: Not my strongest suit, but I’ve had to learn how to sit myself down to work on my dream projects when friends are out enjoying drinks on a sunny patio or when my husband sits there watching TV. You must be willing to put in the work and to crank out results one day at a time until your project is complete. Each day that you work on your dream project is a day closer to you living the life of your dreams. It won’t happen overnight, but it will happen when you put in the time, day after day.

Keep your vision in front of you everyday and be relentless about making it happen. Believe in yourself and your ability to get things done and work hard. Soon you will be enjoying the fruits of your labor and nothing will ever taste so good! Enjoy and celebrate your journey!

4 WAYS TO BUILD STRENGTH & COURAGE FOR YOUR LIFE

IMG_4109

Strength training came into my life one afternoon in highschool when my friend Chris asked me to spot him while he bench pressed in the school weight room.  It was LOVE at first sight even though I didn’t start lifting weights regularly until university, and it remains my big love to this day at age 37.  There’s no feeling more empowering than an awesome sweat session from lifting weights and getting stronger everyday.

As I got more into strength training, those of you who lift will know what I mean when I say it is such an important metaphor and teacher for life: the more we practice lifting heavy things, the more strength and resilience we cultivate for handling the heavy things in life.  Soon, I was asking myself ‘how can I do strength training for other aspects of my self and my life?’

The more we can make a regular practice to build strength physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, the more this strength becomes internalized in who we are and COURAGE is what we become.

Here are four ways to build strength in your life in ways that will serve you:

1. Physically – Get physically strong! The body-mind-energy connection is so incredible that by getting strong on the outside, we start to get strong on the inside. It takes determination, tenacity, discipline, and self-belief to cultivate a strong body, and in that process, you start to embody those qualities.  Lifting heavy weights is always good, but if traditional weight training is not your thing, find other ways you enjoy getting physically strong.

2. Mentally – Just as we practice flexing our physical muscles on a regular basis, we should do mental training on a regular basis as well.  Daily affirmations, journaling positive things, reading inspiring books, making goals, are all great ways to build mental strength. When life gets challenging, will you have the mental strength to stay positive, think empowering thoughts, and make great decisions? Here is a great affirmation practice if you are looking for something to get started.

3. Emotionally – Let your walls down and take risks from the heart.  Just like tearing apart muscle tissues through lifting heavy weights helps to rebuild the muscle into something bigger and stronger, a heart that breaks is a heart that is open and able to rebuild itself  into a stronger one.  When you are willing to let yourself risk heartache and disappointment in order to stay true to love and compassion, you build up your emotional resilience.

4. Spiritually – There is no power stronger than the energy of the Divine Universe.  The more we can stay connected and interact with it on a daily basis, the more we draw from this infinite and all-loving power source.  Create rituals and routines to connect in your own way. Every morning as soon as I wake up, I step outside to my patio and offer a thank-you prayer to the Universe for me being alive and for blessing me and my life.  I journal and write thank-yous for all the things I’m grateful for as well as for the things I would like to manifest and achieve.  When I run, I pay attention to how my feet connect with the Earth and enjoy the nature around me.  Cultivate your own relationship with the Divine Source.

The strength you need and want is already within you.

The courage that is your life is there for you to cultivate and nurture.

Believe in the power that you have what it takes to craft your amazing and powerful life.
